A NEW heavy-duty export-type cab was shown at a display organized by the Duramin Engineering Co., Ltd., Stonefield Way, Ruislip, Middx, last week. Known as the Safari, and suitable for mounting on A.E.C. Monarch, Mandator and Mammoth Major chassis, it is of " utility " pattern and designed for use and maintenance by semi-skilled labour. The cab is of riveted construction, and fabricated from simple angle sections and heavy-gauge flat light-alloy sheet. Of robust build, the structure is designed to stand up to work on corrugated African roads and on unmade ground. Repairs may easily be domc with simple tools. To reduce cost and provide drivercomfort in high ambient temperatures, doors are omitted and replaced by hinged safety bars. There is no passenger seat. The roofline is extended to form a vizor above the two flat, fixed windscreen panels.

Duramin also exhibited a heavy-duty half-cab on an A.E.C. 0860 chassis. Panels of complicated curvature have been avoided in the design to facilitate repair by fitters of average skill. Of riveted Duralumin construction, the driver's compartment has no door on the Off side'and a sliding glass panel on the near side. A large air scoop, with a shutter actuated by a lever in the cab, is mounted in front of the driver's feet. Good rearward vision is provided by a large, toughened-glass window, and the complete cab is sprayed internally with a rubber insulating material.
