• A Liverpool bulk haulage and skip-hire firm which dates back to 1900 has gone into liquidation with the loss of 10 jobs.
Tj Shillington ceased operations last week citing difficult trading conditions and had debts. The family-run firm's seven drivers have been laid off; Us skip hire business has been bought by rival CRS.
Operators in Liverpool face some of the lowest skip rates in the country following a price war that has seen rates falling as low as £65 per skip, includ ing the landfill tax. The typical cost of a skip across the rest of the counny is more than £80.
A number of companies have come into the market over the last few years, forcing prices down: some operators in the sector predict further failures.
