Casting Properties THE latest publication of the Association of Light Alloy Refiners and Smelters, Ltd., 3 Albemarle Street, London. W.1, is entitled "The Properties and Characteristics of Aluminium Casting Alloys." It contains data for all alloys to British Standard 1490. The publication is based on the original Alar data sheets but is in a more compact form and contains more information.

Bright Lights A CATALOGUE issued by the A.E.I. rA Lamp and Lighting Co., Ltd., Melton Road, Leicester, describes over 50 decorative tungsten-lighting fittings which have been newly introduced by the company. The units form a range known as the "Fiesta," and may be considered for installation in showrooms.

Protecting Banks HEAVY rubber sections which can be attached to loading banks to prevent them from being damaged by vehicles when reversing have been introduced by the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain), Ltd., Wolverhampton. Each fender is 2 ft. long, 9 in. wide and, with a D section. projects by 31 in.

E22 The mounting bracket for a fender has a spigot which fits into the lower half so that the upper portion is free to move. This ensures that should a vehicle settle on the rubber there is no risk of its being damaged as the vehicle draws away. Each fender costs £5 5s.

The company also produce large rectangular rubber sections which may be set in to form the edge of a loading bank with the top flush with the deck and the side in line with the wall.

The GP.511 filter is for use on Leyland 600, 680 and 900 series of engines and the GP.514 on 300, 350 and 375 series.

A SCREWDRIVER incorporating a fly

wheel has been introduced by C.M.I. Products, Ltd., Finchley Road, London, N.W.3. Known as the He-Man, it is intended for the removal of obstinate screws. The bit is engaged in the head of the screw and the handle is pushed to start the flywheel spinning, this being effected by an Archimedean mechanism. When the flywheel has reached a certain speed, dogs engage with the bit and adminster a sharp twist to the screw. The flywheel effect can be disengaged so that the tool can be used as a normal ratchet screwdriver.

Welding Transformers THREE arc-welding transformers have been added to the range of Philips Electrical, Ltd.. Century House, Shafteshury Avenue, London, W.C.2. The type ES.1370 sells at £34 15s. and is recommended for small workshops and garages. It is suitable for the welding of sheet metal and light-gauge steel up to 7,14--in. thick. Thin sheets and sections may be brazed by means of a special 10-volt tapping.

The ES.1371 has provision for 16 different tappings and costs £63 10s., and the ES.1372 can be used by one operator for work requiring up to 350 amp. or by two up to 175 amp. each. It provides for 64 different tappings and costs £120.
