general meeting of the Royal Automobile Club on May 30, the chairman, Mr. Wilfrid Andrews, declared that motorvehicle users were taxed too much, and that they should have some say in the way the money was spent, as was originally promised.

The S.J.C. of the motoring bodies was strongly in favour of the taxation principle in which a reasonable sum was paid on the vehicle and the bulk on the fuel. The manufacturers had at first disagreed with this, but had since decided in favour of it, although it aid not altogether satisfy some, operators of commercial vehicles.

The Club greatly regretted the reduction in. the allocation for road expenditure. This was false economy. There was, however, some hope that the Minister might reconsider this matter..

It had been thought that nationalization might be a threat to the private motorist, but the removal from the Transport Bill of the provisions concerning the C licensee appeared to reduce, this risk.
