Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Birmingham Corporation's traffic: control committee has issued a comprehensive report on the working of the one-way traffic system which was inaugurated in the centre of the city on June 5, 1933. The system has, generally speaking, proved to be satisfactory, and the committee proposes to continue it, with a variation to enable cleansing vehicles to proceed in the opposite direction, during certain hours, in one-way streets.

The machines are able to operate only to the near side, and the committee is informed that the mechanical appliances at present manufactured cannot be adapted to cleanse on the off side, and, in any case, the cost of making such an alteration would be high. Power is, therefore, to be sought to exempt cleansing vehicles from the provisions of the One-way Traffic Order between 1130 p.m. and 5.30 a.m.

The one-way system has been attended by a reduction in the number of accidents, and has facilitated the regular running of the bus services.

Thirty More Buses for Manchester.

Manchester Corporation's transport committee has decided to recommend the city council to obtain powers to borrow money for the purchase of 30 double-deck buses, which are required to meet the needs of the rapidly developing districts of Wythenshawe and Baguley. The vehicles will cost approximately £54,000.

According to a report submitted to the committee, the receipts from the city's transport system since April I have increased by nearly £8,000, compared with those for the corresponding period of last year. PORTSMOUTH TO REPLACE TRAMS BY TROLLEYBUSES.

Within the next two years Portsmouth Corporation's tramways are to be replaced by a system of trolleybuses. The first step, this year, will be to replace the trams on one route, and later to extend that route in such a way that two further tram services become redundant. Various other important changes are to be made.

The corporation is to oppose the application of Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., to the South-Eastern Traffic Commissioners for the renewal of its licences for stage services in Portsmouth.
