Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

of October 17, in which you make enquiries about lorry parking facilities in Bristol.

There have never been any permanent parking facilities for lorries in the central area of Bristol. In 1965 the City Council purchased a former railway goods yard at Canons Marsh for redevelopment purposes. In the period since then, most of the area has been made available for the parking of vehicles, and until recently it has been possible to set aside at all times some part of this area as a coach and lorry Park. However, during recent months, redevelopment has at last started, and this, together with the increased demand for car yparking, has caused the parking facilities for lorries during the day to be suspended. However, overnight parking of lorries, ie between the hours of 6pm and 8am have been retained. At one time there were at Canons Marsh lavatories and washing facilities, but these were so often vandalised and misused that they have long since been closed.

The City Council, some years ago, made available land at Avonmouth for the commercial development of a facility for the parking of lorries and the accommodation of their drivers; the name used by the current operators is the Avon Transportel, and is located at Third Way, Avonmouth. As the City Council is not involved in the management of this facility, I have no information on the charges.

There is a 24-hour lorry park at Cumberland Basin by the entrance of the city docks. Although there are no toilet or washing facilities there is a transport cafe close by.

I hope this clarifies the position for you.
