Yorkshire Activity.

Two important meetings of the A.R.O. are to be held in Yorkshire and in each case the speakers will be Mr. R. W. Sewill and Major Eric Long, J.P. The first meeting will be at Leeds on December 10, and the second at Sheffield on December 11.

Hot-pot Supper in Manchester.

Amongst those to be present at the hot-pot supper of the A.R.O. Man. chester branch will be Mr. Roger W. Sewill, national director. This event will take place on Monday next, 1)ecernber 9, at the City Hotel, Cooper Street, Manchester, commencing at 7.30 p.m.

Meetings in the Midlands.

Operators in the 'district are invited to attend an A.R.O. meeting at the Swan Hotel, Sin Fiord, on December 13, at 7.30 p.m. Mr. S. W. Nelson and Mr. F. StallwOrthy (of the West Midland Licensing "Authority's staff) will be present.

On December 16, Mr. R. W. Sewill and Major. Eric Long, J.P., will address an open Meeting at Hanley Town Hall at 7 pan.' Mr. Caddy will be chairman.

A further open meeting will take place at the Station Hotel, Burton-onTrent, on-December 17, at7.30 p.m., when the Speakers will again be Mr.

Sewill and Major Long, .

Operators Defend Regulations

A, meeting. of the south-eastern subarea of the Metropolitan division of was held at New Cross on Monday, when Mr. L. G. Ockeriden spoke On the benefits and disadvantages of the Road and Rail Traffic Act. Mr. Ockenden -dealt largely with the disadvantages of the Act, and it was somewhat surprising to hear, in the ensuing discussion, a strong defence put up by many members of a number of the present rules . and regulations.

The question of licensing and regulating clearing houses was discussed by Mr. Alan. Simpson,and Mr. T. • A. McDowall reported on the results of the Association's political propaganda during the General Election.

A resolution was passed calling for the removal of a number of restrictions on A and B licences to bring them more into line with the regulations appertaining to C licences.

Value of Road Transport in National Emergency.

Mr. R. W. Sewill, national director of .A.R.O., spoke at a meeting of the Poole Chamber of Trade, on Friday last. He dealt briefly with the history of road transport and spoke of its immense importance in war, At the same • time, he mentioned , that the country.was saved by road transport in the general strike of 1926, yet since that time successive Governments had penalized the industry to bolster up the railways.

Metropolitan Ancillary Sectional Board Established.

At a meeting of the Associated Road Operators ancillary users' section, held in London on December 3, the Metropolitan Ancillary Sectional Board was established, and the following agreed to serve upon the Board : —Mr. R.
