nELAYS in the delivery of Atlantean

buses, at least six months behind schedule, have made it necessary to overhaul many older buses—which otherwise would have been disposed of—for peakhour operation. This comment is made in the annual report of Liverpool Corporation Passenger Transport, which remarks on the added strain this has put on the already overtaxed engineers' division.

"The outlook of increasing expenses, falling revenue, and reduction of passengers is familiar to the majority of municipal passenger transport undertakings, and it would seem there is little chance of this pattern being altered unless transport as a whole is considered on a much wider basis."

Delivery of 120 Atlanteans against a new contract is expected to start in September. These vehicles, with a wheelbase extended by 6 in. and an increased length of 94 in. in the lower saloon, will have glider-type entrance doors.

The fuel oil consumption rate of the fleet deteriorated from 8-79 m.p.g. in 1963-4 to 8-64 m.p.g. in 1964-5, and the apparent worsening of the fuel oil m.p.g. is the result of the continued introduction of the Atlantean vehicles with their greater load-carrying capacity. The figure for m.p.g. is influenced by the larger seating capacity and the greater weight of the Atlantean vehicles. The consumption of engine lubricating (topping oil) was 752 m.p.g. for the year under review.
