Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Police have launched an appeal to find the driver of an artic after its brakes disintegrated and parts smashed through the windscreen of an oncoming car, leaving a passenger with serious injuries.

The incident happened at about 12.30pm on Monday 27 March on the A43 near Geddington. The truck was travelling eastbound towards Corby when it apparently suffered a fractured brake drum, parts from which hit a Vauxhall Vectra.

The vehicle in question is believed to be a 38-tonne artic with a white or cream curtain-sided trailer. There was no livery on the tractor unit or trailer.

Police say the truck did not stop but they accept that the driver was unlikely to be aware of what happened.

Police Constable Martin Thorogood adds: "This incident clearly was not the driver's fault and he would probably not have known what had happened — there is absolutely no suggestion that he has driven off on purpose."

Anyone who was on this road at the time and saw the incident, or thinks they can identify the truck or its driver, should contact the Road Policing Unit on 08453 700 700.
