ACONTRACT worth over £500,000 as been received by John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., through its distributor, Robertson and Moss, Ltd., for a number of three-axled heavyduty chassis. The order has come from South African Railways.
Most of the vehicles will be fitted with the Thornycroft 170 b.h.p. petrol engine; the others will have the maker's oil engine. The vehicles will be required to haul trailers over rough country roads with steep gradients.
