• Two new training courses for workshops are now available from the Vehicle Inspectorate NI) and Astra Training.

From 1 November the MoT test will include an exhaust emission check and to help testers perform the procedure correctly the VI and the Retail Motor Industry Federation have jointly produced a training package. It includes a four hour training course, a detailed manual and an instruction video. Courses cost around £60 per person and will be run in September and October at 35 Goods Vehicle Testing Stations nationwide.

Vehicle electronics is the subject of a range of open learning packages from Astra Training. Three packs are available, they are: Basic Electrics: Ignition Systems and Electronic Petrol Fuel Injection, Each pack is split into short modules and is available as a booklet.
