LIVERPOOL Port Emergency Committee announces that as from September 1 road hauliers and -shippers of small consignments of goods (for export) f rem Liverpool, may make use of the transit depot, which has just been established at the Wool Warehouse, Great Howard Street, Liverpool, 3, This depot is owned by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. Small consignments for shipment by various vessels or required at export berths on differing permit dates, may be brought here. The consignments will be subsequently delivered from the depot to the export berth by local transport, as required by the shipping companies.

Mersey Docks and Harbour Board will be responsible for the depot and for the delivery of goods from the depot to the export berth. Goods sent to the depot must be accompanied by the permit issued by the shipping company and other documents normally carried by the haulier. Acceptance at, and delivery from, the depot will be within the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and from 8 .a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays.

Charges will be as follow:—Receiving from road vehicle, housing and delivery of goods to export berth, including one week's rent, 9s. per ton (minimum charge 4s. per consignment); rent after first week or part of a week Is. 6d. per ton.

The Dock Board will took to the haulier delivering the goods to the depot for payment of the charges incurred; any allocation of such charges between the haulier and the shipper will be ,a matter of arrangement between the respective parties.

The above charges and hours of working are experimental and may be subject to revision in the light of experience.

It should also be noted that the Mersey Dock Board will not accept responsibility for loss or damage. LOOK TO YOUR TYRE EQUIPMENT

THE Ministry of War Transport has issued a timely warning, urging all owners of motor vehicles to give attention to their tyres to ensure that the maximum life is obtained from them. U.S. BUILDS BLOOD-TRANSFUSION VEHICT,ES THE American Red Cross •recently purchased its first mobile bIood: transfusion unit. This refrigerator vehicle will operate within a 24-hour radius of the Red Cross processing centres in Philadelphia and will carry blood from donors to the centres, there to be converted into preservable plasma that is kept in "blood banks," for use when transfusiOns are required at short notice.

The Red Cross plans to establish additional processing centres throughout the United States and will add other refrigerator. vehicles to serve them. Similar use of mobile medical units •M Great Britain has focused American attention on this important section of road transport and defence.
