Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Devon-based haulage firm has been left to cope without 29 of its drivers after their HGV licences were suspended by SouthWest Traffic Commissioner Philip Brown and his predecessor Christopher Heaps.

The banned drivers work for Okehampton-based Bryan Haulage. Four were banned for six weeks; one for five weeks; and three for four weeks. The remainder were banned for shorter periods down to 48 hours.

The TCs' action follows three public inquiries which heard evidence that the drivers had committed various tachograph offences, mostly falsification of records.

Heaps said the suspensions should "serve as a warning to other vocational drivers that offences will not be tolerated".

Three more Bryan drivers, Nigel Welsh, Adrian Bayliss and Martin Ives, are due to appear before an Exeter public inquir5 on 10 October to answer simi lar charges.

To date, 32 Bryan driven have been prosecuted for hour offences. Two others, who havE pleaded not guilty, are due tE appear before BarnstaplE Crown Court on 23 October.

The Vehicle InspectoratE will decide what action to takE against the company followini a hearing.

Earlier this year Foden which used Bryan's training amn for its driver training scheme parted company with the firn after using it for only a year.

Nobody from Bryan Haulagi was available for comment.
