Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TorANY lasers of commercial vehicles ..111 are acquainted with the standard Ford light van, which has a load capacity of 7 cwt., but not all know that the Ford Motor Co. (England}, Ltd., Trafford Park, Manchester, have recently put on the market a 10-cwt. model. This new model has an unusually capacious body, which is much wider than that of the 7-cwt. model_

In addition, the arrangement of the rear springing is so planned. and the body built so low down on the chassis that the loading level of the platform has been considerably reduced.

The total weight of this van is 1,848 lb.; the body is constructed in Plymax' which is weatherproof and practically indestructible. The inside dimensions of the body are :—Height, 4 ft.; width between framing, 4 ft. 71ins.; and width of door opening, 3 ft. 10-1 ins: There is a sliding door

C243 of approximately half the width of the body, behind the-driver's seat, and the space between this door and the double doors at the rear is 4 ft. 2 ins.

The remainder of the chassis specification is the same as that of the Model T, which is so well-known that little more than a brief description is required. It has a four-cylindered Power unit, with a bore of 31 ins., and

a stroke of 4 ins. The cylinders are east in one with the upper part of the crankcase, and have a removable head. The lower half of the crankcase is a steel pressing, which is extended to form the bottom housing for the clutch chamber and transmission case.

Following the usual Ford practice, the magneto is made up as part of the engine; horse-shoe magnets are attached to the flywheel, and these revolve in front of stator coils, the current thus obtained being led to four trembler coils, a suitable timer being interposed. The gear is the Ford planetary type and includes a foot brake operating an 'a special transmission drum; the other brake has expanding shoes in the rear wheel drums. The final drive is by bevel gearing and the gear ratios are :— High speed, 3.121to 1; low speed, 10 to 1; reverse, 13i to 1, and the springs are, as usual, single semi-elliptic at front and rear fitted transversely. The outfit includes electric starting and lighting, the former with Bendix drive. The starting is also as used formerly, with a planetary reduction-gear under the steering wheel.

The price of this model is £140.
