a customer buys new trucks, when the vehicle goes into service the customer will receive a full vehicle handover demonstration.
"This training is free to the customer, it is included in the price of the vehicle." The training includes making sure the drivers know how to get the best out of the vehicle.
Volvo also runs 'Challenge Andy', a scheme where Collett drives a route the firm uses and sets a fuel benchmark. Any driver that beats his figures will win a prize.
For larger fleets, Volvo will train the trainers to ensure they are able to help their drivers
get the best out of the trucks. Collett says: 'There is no such thing as free driver training, so anyone wanting further training will either have to pay for it or may be able to come to an arrangement with their dealer" Training costs £400 a day per person and for manual trucks requires two days of training, while for autos it is only one day.
All course are run from Volvo's training facilities in Warwick using a four-seater FH tractor unit and trailer. The course will account for either seven or 14 hours of CPC training once the Driver CPC comes into effect in the autumn. To find out more, contact your local Volvo dealer.
