Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

a Large Capacity

PECIFIC ALLY designed to meet the 0 requirements of engine-repair workshops, the new Cuthbert oench-pattern connecting-rod borer will accommodate all sizes of rod and will machine a highfinish surface in five-six minutes floorto-floor time.

The bed of the machine is arranged to be bolted to any suitable bench, and is sufficiently robust to prevent distortion' during installation. Upon the bed are mounted the saddle, which carries the locating jigs and holds the connecting rod in position, the head and tail stocks, and' the boring bar.

Similar in design to large-size models, a jig 'on the saddle locates the connecting rod from the small-end bore, while two clamps hold the connecting-rod cap rigidly to the saddle, to prevent chatter under the heaviest cut. The small-end jig is adjustable for length to accommodate connecting rods of various lengths, and a range of mandrels is supplied with the machine to suit the bore of the small-end bush.

The 1i-in.-diameter boring bar. works in an outboard fashion, and is supported by heavy-duty bearings in the head and tail stocks. The end of the bar is reduced in size to enable smalldiametee bearings to be machined. Four tools are carried by the bar for facing, rough and lnish boring. The roughing and finishing tools may be retained at one setting for a series of rods but the facing tools have to be set for each rod.. Progression Of the .bar is controlled from a three-speed gearbox, which permits hand operation, a fine feed of 110055 in. per revolution, and a quick automatic return, Both boring tools may be set accurately by means of the built-in micrometer.

The machine is manufactured by Cuthbert Machine Tools, Ltd., Millmead Works. High Street, .Guildford.
