Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WE are approaching that realization of the dream of countless generations of men, that invasion of the air around us which will surely revolutionize the arts of war as those of peace. ."

The words are from the introduction to a catalogue of the first motor exhibition ever held in London. They were written by a far-seeing financier connected with the flotation of the Daimler Motor Co., Ltd., in 1896, at a time when not one in a million had even seen a motor vehicle, and when flying was still a pipe dream.

This is a typically interesting episode from "Daimler 1896-1946," a complete history of' the 50 years' life of What is -now the Daimler Co., Ltd., written by St. John C. Nixon and published by G. T. Foulis and Co., Ltd., at 42s.

From the days of the railway-arch workshop at Putney Bridge, where Frederick R. Simms laid the foundations of a business inspired by the genius of Gottlieb Daimler, to those of the present great industrial age, in which the company ranks as one of the foremost organizations in automobile engineering, the author covers his subject in a smooth and detailed progression.

He has not neglected the Daimler commercial-vehicle activities, and in addition to describing early and successful incursions into this field with " road trains," rail coaches and petrol-electric buses, he relates the various stages in the relationship with the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd.

The book as a whole is of great interest to any student of road transport, as well as being entertaining reading for anyone with even a spark of interest in a key industry of the age.
