Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TRANSPORT MINISTER David Jamieson says operators should improve efficiency in order to cut their fuel bills before calling for a reduction in fuel duty.

Speaking exclusively to CM, he says the government has continued its Road Haulage Modernisation Fund with a strong emphasis on driver training for greater vehicle efficiency and urges operators to take this up.

He claims that some operators have seen spectacular results from fuel efficiency training -some cutting their fuel bills by up to 10%: "Of course operators are calling for a cut in fuel duty but their first port of call should be seeing if they can use less fuel, which obviously means they will pay less duty.

Jamieson suggests drivers change their style of driving, set any air kit on the cab at the correct angle and ensure tyres are at the correct pressure to reduce fuel use.

"Some operators don't want to engage in such training,he adds. "But it is pity as there are benefits, which will see them running their business more profitably. Margins are tight. Saving a few miles per gallon could make them more profitable than the next guy."
