I am amused to see that the Birmingham branch of NALGO has put forward a resolution about decimal currency for discussion at the union's annual conference in June. The branch wants its national executive council "to ensure that the changeover to decimal currency will not entail loss of salary value to any member of the Association".

If the aristocrats of the white collar brigade are worried about what Sir Winston Churchill once called "those damned dots" the rest of us have cause for concern. Road transport cashiers, especially, should consider additional life insurance in good time . ..!
