r\EVELOPED by Ab Asbrink and

Co., Malmo, Sweden, the Verro pneumatic street sweeper is equipped with a high-powered suction unit which is capable of picking up heavy particles, such as steel bolts, as well as dust, grit, paper and other refuse. Sole manufacturing and selling rights for this country and the British Commonwealth have been acquired by Alfred Miles, Ltd„ .Cheltenham.

A steel-bristled gutter brush mounted behind the near-side front wheel, which is hydraulically driven and elevated, covers a sweeping area extending from 4 ft. to 5 ft. 6 in. from the pavement edge. The dirt from the gutter is thrown under a patented suction nozzle. This is designed so that up to 90 per cent. of the air can be recirculated, the relatively small proportion of discharge air being cleansed in a series of cyclone separators mounted at the rear of the vehicle.

A powerful current of air is blown on to the roadway to aid the brush in breaking loose the refuse, which is separated from the air stream in an internal cyclone.

The hopper is equipped with hanging chains to disintegrate waste paper, vegetables and similar large pieces of refuse, and a full-width discharge door allows the load to he dumped in a few minutes.

The Swedish sweeper is equipped with a 95 b.h.p. petrol engine for vehicle propulsion, and a /0 b.h.p, oil engine is employed for the suction-fan drive. Water sprinklers are fitted to the brush unit and suction nozzle.

The sweeper will be supplied as a forward-control self-propelled vehicle or a trailer-mounted unit, which will be equipped with well-known types of British power unit. Large rear-view mirrors will enable all sweeping operations to be watched by the driver from his seat.
