VOLKSWAGEN HAS announced that its new Transporter range goes on sale in the UK on 3 October. giving it a month's lead on its arch rival, the Mercedes-Benz Vito, due in early November.
Both newcomers will be on show at the RAI truck show in Amsterdam, which is open to the public on 17-25 October, the first time in its new autumn slot. VW also intends to use the show to reveal its nextgeneration Caddy high-cube van which, like its major rivals, is a purpose-built design rather than being adapted from a car.
Looking further ahead,VW and M-B are due to replace their col laborative LI' and Sprinter models in 2006.
Although too far away for the fine details to be finalised, the higher development costs these days mean there is likely to be more sharing of drive line components than on the existing models.
