Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SOME of the problems caused by manual handling of loads in industry are to be examined at a conference in October.

The conference has been prompted by the publication of a consultative document from the Health and Safety Commission which urges a new approach on the grounds that reported injuries caused by manual handling have increased from 40,000 to 70,000 a year in the last 20 years.

The one-day conference is organised by the National Materials Handling Centre and will cover topics such as research into manual handling problems, safety legislation, the medical viewpoint and a review of some lifting aids.

It will be held on Tuesday, October 19, at the Cavendish Conference Centre, London W1 and the fee is £65 for members of the NMHC or £75 for non-members. Details and a booking form are available from the NMHC, Cronfield Institute of Technology, Cranfield, Bedford, MK43 OAL.
