Lamps from Lucas A"wpair of fog and long-range headlamps has been announced by Lucas, The lamps, called the Pathfinder and Projector, incorporate reflector, lens and filament in a precision., all-glass, sealed beam unit. They measure only 3*in. from front to back. Different models are available for cars and commercial vehicles.

These sealed beam light units are gas filled, so that the reflector is protected from atmospheric pollution—thus reflectivity is unimpaired throughout the life of the unit. Increased accuracy of filament location with respect to the focal point of the reflector is ensured and errors due to bulb seating are prevented. Blemishes of the reflector surface are eliminated and the absence of normal bulb envelope minimizes ghost images.

The lamp bodies (in serviceable heavy gauge black steel with chromium-plated rims for commercials) are weather and vibration proof. They are 61 in. deep, including a diecast foot for upright mounting. The commercial vehicle lamps have a special bracket which allows either vertical, horizontal or pendant mounting.

The long-range lamp (Projector) throws a pencil beam spotlight of some 80,000 to 100,000 candle power. The foglamp (Pathfinder) has a lens optically designed to give a perspective view of the road with even illumination of the kerbside for a considerable distance. A "hot spot" of some 12,000 candle power is positioned near the top edge of the beam to give useful performance under non-fog conditions.

Electrical Test Bench I—I A NEW electrical test bench, Model C2000, has been

introduced by Crypton Equipment. Designed to cover 6-, 12and 24-V testing, this model will test dynamos with up to 2,000 w. output at speeds from 400 to 5,000 r.p.m. Provision is also made for alternator testing at up to 10,000 r.p.m. and attachments are available for magneto testing. Features of the new bench are the adjustment by one control of the torque meter and tachometer to suit the varying number of teeth on starter pinions and the calibration of the tachometer to obtain a direct reading of speed when testing belt driven generators. Any ratio can be covered by one switch.

Running is claimed to be silent and vibrationless. The vicegear, work table and generator drive shafts are fully insulated by rubber mountings from the main structure of the test bench and from the control panel.

A ventilated compartment is included for the batteries and the top part of the bench can be raised to give easy access to the rear of the control panel and 4he whole of the drive and hydraulic starter brake mechanism.
