ONE OF the most interesting exhibits at the Engineering and Shipping Exhibition, which opened at Olympia, London, last Friday and continues until September 22nd, is the portable rock drilling plant shown by W. H. Dorman and Co., Ltd.

This consists of a Dorman wavepower generator mounted close behind the cab of a 5-ton Kaarier lorry. 'The generator is driven from the lorry gearbox through the medium of a silent chain enclosed iii a cast, aluminium housing, the top of which axtends to the centre of the front seat, the control handle for the " neutral " and " drive " positions being conveniently situated to the driver's kit hand. Behind, the generator is a large petrel tank; and next to this a capacious container for the drills and spares. The generator is capable of operating three. drills, and one of the main features of the method is its freedom from dust.

Inclusttial electric trucks constitute a prominent feature of the Exhibition. Joseph Booth and Brothers, Ltd., of Hadley, near Leeds, show examples of their new Union trucks and electric locomotives. It will be remembered that these vehicles were exhibited by the builders for the first time at the Royal Agricultural Show.

E38 British Electric Vehicles, Ltd.; stage two examples. One is their Super-giant model with a load capacity of 5,000 lb. This has the batteries slung amidships under the platform. The second exhibit is a powerful electric locomotive for rail use, and this is capa, bte of drawing 15 tons.

Two Greenbat trucks are to be found on the stand occupied by W. Goodyear and Sons, Ltd., of Dudley. One is a 2-ton low-load-line !elevating-platform truck with a 6-in, lift, and the batteries situated behind the driver. The other

model is of the ordinaxy type with 1.111 cier slun g battery and capable of hauling a 2-ten trailer. In both machines doable coil springing is employed at each side of the front axle. An important new feature is the provision of Ni+Fe steel-alkaline batteries.

We have net the space at. our disposal to deal in detail with all the stands, but visitors should certainly call at those occupied by Hollings and Guest, Ltd., to examine their latest 200-ten tyre press; Ferodo. Ltd. for all types of friction materials; Allen-Liversidge, Ltd., for electric welding equipment; and C. A. Vandervell and Co., Ltd., in connection with all electrical equipment, such as dynamos, starters, batteries, eta
