AFTER listening to an application by Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., to introduce an additional nicking-up point in Scarborough, the chairman of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, said he would be prepared to listen to a joint application by the company and United Automobile Services, Ltd., who objected to the proposals. The Wallace Arnold bid was refused.
Mr. J. M. Barr, a director of Wallace Arnold, said that they wanted one of their excursions and tours licences to start from West Pier, Scarborough, and another from Columbus Ravine, with an additional picking-up Point at Colley's Cosy Camp, Scholes Park Road. During the past season the number of passengers carried in the Scarborough area had declined; they wanted to improve the situation.
Mr. W. R. Hargrave, for United Automobile Services, stated that they had a picking-up point very near to that proposed by Wallace Arnold. If the application was granted, Wallace Arnold would scoop up all the passengers and, in addition to this, would distribute their literature in the area. The Scarborough town bus services Obtained their sustenance from summer traffic and operated with a 10 minute frequency down Seholes Park Road. He pointed out that it was a unilateral application, and work would be transferred from one operator to another. This would not preserve a balance of licensed operation.
