A DOUGLAS Cargor-Imaster was demonstrated on Tuesday at London Airport. The Cargomaster (seen right) has been developed primarily for the handling of baggage and freight at air terminals, and is basically a load-carrying vehicle with a raisable body, having a moving floor, which extends by way of a 2-ft.wide conveyor projecting over the cab into the aircraft loading hatch.

The body is raised and lowered by means of hydraulically operated scissors and because of the very low chassis and cab, the discharge and the loading height arc adjustable from 4 ft. 2 in. to 12 ft., which enables it to be used on all types of aircraft.

SPECIALIST VEHICLES FOR LIVERPOOL OPERATOR

TW0 additional A-licence vehicles for General Wharfage and Roadways (Liverpool), Ltd., were granted by the North Western Licensing Authority at Liverpool on Monday, to cater for the needs of the new corrugated cardboard container division of Kirby Containers (Liverpool), Ltd.

Mr. S. A. Hughes, managing director of General Wharfage, said it was entirely new traffic requiring special vehicles. It was proposed to use vans of the maximum permitted capacity-1.700 Cu. ft. The factory was producting 74 tons weekly and this was expected to increase to 200 tons by the end of the year. A full load weighed only 3 tons and they had been unable to hire suitable vehicles. Furniture vans and meat vans had been used, but were unsatisfactory.

The output would eventually be 550 tons weekly, said Mr. S. Curtis, works director of Kirby Containers, and at least 10 vehicles would be needed. Objections by the British Transport Commission were withdrawn.
