A PRESTON lorry driver Who "took rA the unprecedented course" of telling a policeman that the vehicle he was driving was in an unfit condition to be on the road, was absolutely discharged by Preston county magistrates last week.

The driver, John Henry Staveley, of Wensley Place, Ribbleton, Preston, was accused of using a vehicle with parts in a dangerous condition and with defective steering and tyres.

Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent H. W. Montgomery said that Staveley stopped the vehicle when he found that it was not safe to drive, and asked a policeman on point duty to examine it.
