• Spray suppression kits are causing thousands of pounds of damage every year to tipper tractive units, according to the Road Haulage Association.

The trade association has launched a campaign to collect information on the damage, in an effort to force the Government to abandon the compulsory fitting of kits to articulated tippers. Rigid tippers are already exempt from spray suppression regulations. RHA technical manager Tim Inman says: 'The kits are causing an unreasonable level of damage and it does not make sense that spray suppression has to be fitted to tipper tractive units and not trailers. Some operators have told me of times where the spray suppression flap catches and tears off the vehicle wing: one member says he has to fit a new kit every 10 days."
