Engineers has begun work on an integrated exhaust design system. The company will produce the new system using its own engine and exhaust system simulation programme WAVE, and Knowledge Based Engineering company ICAD's KBE software KADOS (Knowledge based Automated Design of Silencers) should reduce design and development time for a new exhaust system. Noise, torque and volumetric efficiency can all be optimised using WAVE's ability to predict noise and engine performance, combined with ICAD KBE's interpretation functions.
KADOS allows a designer to call up catalogue information on existing exhaust and intake components and to include other data to simulate a working system. Ricardo plans a seminar on the system in April.
