A SERIES of B-licence applications Pl. affecting 17 vehicles, made by Fred Chappell, Ltd., Batley, was approved by Mr.. J. H. E. Randolph, Yorkshire Deputy Licensing Authority, at Leeds on Tuesday.

The applications were dealt with in three groups. The first, which was unopposed, involved the take-over of three tankers operated by Yorkshire Transporters, Ltd. Mr. Ronald Chappell stated that each vehicle had earned an average of £3,000 during the past eight months.

In the second group, permission was sought to vary the conditions on seven tippers. An increased radius was required for road materials, coal and coke, and additional conditions were sought to carry fertilizers and weed killer as required.

The increased radius was required to serve William Pepper, Ltd,, and Hargreaves (West Riding), Ltd., both E2 members of the Hargreaves group of companies. The additional condition was required to allow operation for two other subsidiary companies — Liquid Fertilizers, Ltd., and Crossbone Fertilizers, Ltd.

It was explained that removable tanks were fitted to the tippers to carry the liquid fertilizers. British Railways withdrew objection.

The third group, which was unopposed, concerned three tippers and four tankers. The tippers were on contract to the North Eastern Gas Board, and permission was sought for, them to carry industrial coal to consumers for Chappell. Three of the tankers were also on contract to the Board, and the other carried the company's own fuel oil under C licence.

The application sought to allow carriage of gas liquor and crude materials for the manufacture of fertilizers and weed killer as required.
