'THE post of chief executive officer and 1. secretary of the Road Haulage Association has been advertised this week. It calls for administrative experience and ability to represent the Association at all levels of public life.

Meanwhile Mr. E. W. Russell, the Association's executive secretary, has been appointed acting chief executive officer and secretary.

As forecast in The Commercial Motor last week, arrangements are being made to set up a memorial fund to the late Mr, R. Morton Mitchell, whose death has made the position of chief executive officer vacant. It is proposed that the proceeds should be presented to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. R.H.A. BACK CUT IN DUTY.

THE Road Haulage Association are numbered among organizations backing an application, by the tyres committee of the Free Trade Union, to remove or reduce' the import duty on tyres, Mr. Richard Lamb, chairman of the committee, who presented the application to the Board of Trade last week, said that he expected the Board to ask all interested parties to express, their views on the application.

Other organizations which backed the application included the Co-operative Union, Ltd., Company of Veteran Motorists, Forces Motoring Club and the Longtife Battery Depot.

CHEAPER TYRE YARN

A REDUCTION of 3d. per lb, about 6 per cent., in the prices of their high-tenacity yarns for tyre cord has been made by Courtaulds, Ltd. The yarns form the carcases of 90 per cent, of all car and commercial vehicle tyres. Production at more than 50m. lb. per year is running at record level, and includes increasing quantities of Tyrex, the newest yarn in the range.

BIGGER TRAFFIC COMMITTEE

THE national executive committee of the Road Haulage Association decided last week to enlarge the new traffic committee. As reported in The Commercial Motor on February 5, the committee originally had six members. It will now have one member from each of the Association's areas.

The committee's aim is to watch restrictions on loading and unloading and to take action on them.
