London Scottish Transport Buy Another 46 Lorries : 34 More for Turner's (Soham), Ltd.

ASUBSTANTIAL fleet of special A licence vehicles is being gradually built up by London Scottish Transport, Ltd., Glasgow. This company, who already have 15 lorries and six trailers purchased from British Road Services, have now added another 46 lorries and eight trailers with a total unladen weight of 252* tons. They were all assigned by Mr. William S. Dick, also of Glasgow.

Turner's (Soham), Ltd., 39 Hall Street, Soham, Cambs, whose name has appeared frequently in past issues, have been granted special A licences for another 34 lorries and six trailers (182 tons).

The issue of special A licences for many more ex-B.R.S. vehicles is reported below.

SCOTLAND Forty-six lorries and eight trailers, including an articulated vehicle (2521 tons) have been made over to London Scottish Transport, Ltd., Glasgow, by Mr. William S. Dick, Glasgow. Mr. Dick has transferred vehicles to London Scottish in the past. Mr. James Hunter, North Berwick, has acquired another four lorries (191 tons). Three further vehicles (131 tons) have been bought by Mr. James K. Allan, Newarthill. Other repeat purchasers are Messrs. W. C. and G. Halliday, Palnackie, two vehicles (15 tons); Thomas Kelly and Sons,. Ltd., Rutherglen, one (5 tons); J. and A. Smith of Maddiston, Ltd., Maddiston, two (141 tons): Mr. James G. Barrack, Aberdeen, one (3 tons); and Messrs. T. B. Band Bros., Friarton, Perth, . three (9 tons). New names among Scottish buyers are those of Messrs. Hutchison and Chisholm, Galashiels, one lorry (41 tons); Mr. Thomas S. Taylor, Grangemouth, one (41 tons); Messrs. A. Robison and Son, Lockerbie, one (5 tons); Eastern Roadways, Anstruther, one (31 tons); Messrs. M. A. Wilson and Sons. Dunfermline, three (10 tons); E. Ferguson (Transport), Ltd., Ayr, one (31 tons), assigned by Mr. John Glen, Dairy; Messrs. G. and R. Kirk, Holywood, Dumfries, one (21 tons), assigned by Mr. George Kirk, of the same address; Alexander Hay, Ltd, Penicuik, one (31 tons) assigned by J. and. G. Campbell, Dalkeith; and Messrs. Ace Transport. Saltcoats, one (71 tons) assigned by Mr. K. Moore, Ayr. Central Garage (Bathgate), Ltd., Bath. gate, have bought another two lorries, each of 3 tons, and divided them between Russell of Bathgate, Batligate, and Mr. Gordon Wilson, 'Torphichen.

NORTHERN AREA Mr. J. P. Gordon, 260 Neashatn Road, Darlington, has acquired an Austin 6-tonner from British Road Services.

NORTH-WEST Another two lorries (6 tons) have been taken over from B.R.S. by Mr. W. E. Robinson, 5 Derby Terrace, Wigan. Mr. H. Swain, The Holme, Withinlee, Prestbury, near Macclesfield, has made a repeat purchase, this time of three vehicles (131 tons). One (41 tons) has been made over to Mr. W. Kirk, Whiteley Green, Bollington, near Macclesfield. Buleock Bros., Ltd., King Street, Whalley, near Blackburn, have exchanged a vehicle with Wilkinsons Transport (Bacup), Ltd., Whitehall Road, Rochdale. One lorry (51 tons) has been made over to Mr. J. Whyte, Ashboume, in the East Midland Traffic Area, by Mr. R. G. Bassett, West Didsbury, Manchester.

Bere,sford Transport, Ltd., Turistall, have sold a vehicle (7 tons) to Messrs

c26 W. Carman and Son, Scholar Green, Stoke-on-Trent, Culcheth Carriers, Ltd., Shaw Street Garage, Culcheth, near Warrington, have taken over a vehicle (3 tons) from Messrs. T. Wilkes and Son, Kidsgrove; and Mr. D. E. Sant, Foxwist Green, Whitegate, Northwich, one (71 tons) from Mr. J. Brindley, Sbamford.

YORKSHIRE Kingston Haulage Co., Ltd., Pecks Wharf, Wincolmlee, near Hull, have made a repeat purchase of five lorries.

Bradley, 33 Whalley ioad, Accrington; Woodseats Transport Co., Ltd., Albert Road, Sheffield, one, assigned by Talbot Transport (Sheffield), Ltd., 1 Montfort Road, Sheffield, 3; and Parkers Luxury Tours, Ltd., York Road, Doncaster, two.

WEST MIDLANDS Nine lorries weighing 601 tons unladen have been taken over by E. A. Smith (Transport), Ltd., Parkfield Road, Wolver hampton, in a repeat purchase. They already have some 13 vehicles running under special A licences. Three lorries (221 tons), based at Handsworth, have been taken over by Western Transport, Ltd., 75 Feeder Road, Bristol, 2. Alliance Motor Transport Co,, Ltd., 284 Lichfield Road, Aston, Birmingham, have bought another lorry (51 tons). Repeat purchases have also been made by George and Matthews (1924), Ltd., 73 Bilston Road, Wolverhampton (two lorries-81 tons); Hall Transport. Ltd., Wood Lane, Short Heath, Willenhall (two —61 tons); and S. Jones (Aldridge), Ltd., Jesmodene, Walsall Road, Aldridge (one5 tons).

Praills (Hereford), Ltd., Holmer Road, Hereford, who have bought five lorries (171 tons), have assigned two (71 tons) to Sweetman and Sons, Ltd., Plough Lane, Hereford; one (31 tons) to E. P. Hardwick, Knighton: one (31 tons) to Mr. W. Whiting, Citra, near Crickhowell; and one (31 tons) to Messrs. D. and N. Morgan, Churchstoke. Sweetman and Sons have also had a vehicle (32 tons) made over to them by Mr. G. T. Sweetman, of the same address.

Mr. R. W. Jones, 23 Farm Road, Langley Green, Birmingham, has had a vehicle (3 tons) transferred to him by Caudle, Ltd., Coventry Road, Sheldon, Birmingham, who have bought five (162 tons) in their latest purchase.

Mr. F. Edwards, Salter's Lane, Lopping. ton, Wem, has bought a lorry (3 tons) from Mr. G. R. Owen, Lee Brockhurst, Shrewsbury.

Two lorries (each 3 tons) recently taken over by Mr. T. J. Richardson, 100 Dudley Road East. Oldbury, have been divided between Mr. V. E. Holland, Tranquil, Pear Tree Lane, Coseley. and Mr. H. G. Rowan, Meadow Farm, Aldridge Road, Streetly.

Mr. R. N. Richardson, whose address is the same as that of Mr. T. J. Richardson, has split five vehicles between G. and K. Haulage, Ltd., 19 Great Bridge, Tipton (two-104 tons); Oldbury Transport, Ltd., 100 Dudley Road East, Oldbury (one54 tons); Messrs. Brewster Bros., 16 Wolseley Road, Bdston (one-51 tons); and Mr. R. H. Wilde, 36 Bromley, Pensnett (one-51 tons).

The West Midland Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to: Mr. F. W. Ball, 86 Arnold Road, Shirley, Birmingham, for two lorries (6 tons); Mr. N. Crowley, 12 Parklield Crescent, Twogates, Tamworth, one (6 tons); and Mr. H. S. Cox, Brick Bridge Bungalow, Bridgnorth Road, Wornbourne, one' (5/ tons).

EASTERN COUNTIES Another 34 lorries and six trailers (182 tons) have been licensed to Turner's (Soham), Ltd.. 39 Hall Street, Soham, Cambs, by the Eastern Licensing .Authority. Of these, a vehicle and a trailer (6 tons) have been made over to A. Dent (HilgaY), Ltd., Fairfield Garage, Hilgay, Norfolk, who have also taken over a lorry and a trader (41 tons) from Mr. A. Dent, of the same address.

Mr. J. Tubby, 385 Whapload Road, -Lowestoft, whose success with tenders for six lorries and two trailers was reported in The Commercial Motor on January 14, has now made over one of the trailers (3 tons) to Messrs. J. S. Briggs and Son, Bridge Works, Thorney.

Five out of eight lorries (234 tons) bought by Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough, have been assigned. Two (6 tons) have gone to G. and R. Ping, Ltd., 63 Coates Road, Eastrea; one (3 tons) to Mr. K. Thomas, Wisbech Fen, Guyhirn; one (3 tons) to Mr. F. L. Taylor, Ailesworth; and one (3 tons) to Mr. C. F. Rawlinson, in the East Midland Traffic Area. Mr. Thomas and Mr. Taylor have also had lorries made over to them by Mr. P. H. Mason, Peterborough Road, Crowland.

Mr. Grange has also had a vehicle (61 tons) transferred to him by Mr. C. E. Ground, Cradge Bank Road, Spalding.

Mr. H. Sayer, 54 South Road, Saffron Walden, who has bought two lorries (61 tons), has assigned them to B. Goodwin (Littlebury), Ltd., Merton's Farm, Littlebury (31 tons), and Mr. J. W, H, Spicer, Sunnyside, West Wratting (34 tons). Westwcgael Transport, Ltd., 45 Kemp's Lane, Beccles, have taken over three lorries (101 tons) from Mr. 1. G. Westwood, of the. same address. Direct perchases have been made by Messrs. Page Bros., Stoneland House, Capel St. Mary (one vehic1e-4;7 tons); Mr.. R. E. Hemmaway, Soke Road, Newborough • (one —3 tons); and C. A. Slater, Ltd., 8 Peterborough Road, Crowland (two lorries and two trailers10 tons).

The Eastern Licensing Authority has also authorized the following assignments: W. Stagles and Son (Wisbeeh), Ltd., North End, Wisbech, six lorries and two trailers (241 tons) by Mr. W. Stagles, of the same address; Messrs. T. Jennings, 28 Hill Side, Sawstort, one (3 tons) by E. and T. Motors, Ltd., in the Metropolitan Traffic Area; Mr. F. Askew, Spring Farm, Frating, Essex, one (3 tons) by Mr. D. C. Geater, Boxted Garage, Boated; and Mr. 0. G. Foster. Moores Lane. Eye, one (31 tons) by Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston.

SOUTHERN AREA Three lorries (91 tons) have been acquired by Mr. A. E. Copelin, 16 Uppleby Road, Parkstone, Dorset. They represent his first purchase.

Three (24 tons 7 cwt.) of six lorries and a trailer recently bought by Mr. T. Regan. Chun Farm, Horsmonden, Kent, have been sold to Archholds (Freightage), Ltd.. 48 Mark Lane, London, E.C.3. Two of the remainder and the trailer have gone to Whalebone Motors, Ltd., 239-241 High Road. Chadwell Heath, Essex, who have re-assigned them to J. and H. Transport Services (Peckham), Ltd., 11a Selden Road, London, S.E.15. They weigh 13 tons.

Christmas, Beach House, Bonnington, Ashford, Kent, who has bought one (21 tons). Mr. C. Brown (Brown Bros.), Sittingbourne, Kent, has taken over a lorry weighing 7 tons unladen.

Messrs. J. D. White and J. Hewitt, I Laundry Road, Minster-in-Tbanet, Kent. have transferred a lorry (3 tons) to Whiles Transport. Ltd., of the same address.
