An inquiry was conducted at Stirlingshire recently by Major F. C. Cooke, D.S.O., M.C., M.List.C.E. one of the inspectors of the Ministry Of Transport, with .regard to an application by Stirling County Council fur an order prohibiting or restricting the driving of heavy motorcars or locomotives on various roads in the county. Evidence as to the unsuitability of the roads mentioned was given by the road surveyors, etc., whilst the Scotnisit Commercial Motor Users Association and several other objectors were also represented. To meet certain objections, the county council indicated that the council was willing to accept the travelling over these roads of road plant, threshing machines, commercial vehicles not exceeding 3 tons in weight and 6 ft. in width, removal vans, and locomotives and heavy motors engaged in timber haulage and public works contracts in the central and western districts, and to limit the proposed prohibition in the eastern district to motor coaches carrying more than 14 passengers. Mr. Robb, for the Scottish C.M.U.A., objected, and stated that he did riot see any reason for the discrimination between the eastern district and the others. Motor coach proprietors and heavy vehicle users were large taxpayers, and were entitled to a fair use of the roads, and he held that a case had not been made out.'
