Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Management, Meeting

C.M.U.A. NATIONAL ORGANIZER TO EXPLAIN NEW POLICY.

A series of meetings is to be held next week by the North-Western

Division of the C.M.U.A. At each meeting the principal speaker will be Mr. J. L. Kinder, national organizer, who will explain the principles of the Association's new policy.

The meetings will be held at Longbridge, December 7; Lancaster, December 8; Blackpool, December 9; and Preston., December 10. Further particulars will be found in the Association Calendar on this page.

Another Plea for Road-Rail Co-operation.

Co-operation between road and rail was urged by Mr. W. Booth, president, at the Silver jubilee Dinner of the Sheffield Horse and Motor Owners Association. A little willingness to cooperate on the part of the railways would, he said, receive a good response from hauliers, and the result would increase the efficiency of transport.

The Association, said Mr. Booth, did not welcome the licensing provisions of the 1933 Act. It did, however, welcome the conditions as to better wages and the control of vehicle fitness.

Mr. Booth reported that the Association, which was celebrating its 25th birthday, now represents 352 licence holders, owning 1,000 motor vehicles and 90 horses.

Alderman F. Thraves, deputy Lord Mayor of Sheffield, and Mr. W. B. Thorrieloe also spoke.

Operators Demand Act Amendment.

A meeting of Aand B-licence holders in Ashton-under-Lyne, held last week under the auspices of the C.M.U.A. South-East Lancashire Area and the Amalgamated Horse and Motor Owners Association, passed re a18 solutions calling for the amendment of the 1983 Act and for the extension of the Aand B-licence period to five years.

Further points necessary, said the resolution, are security of tenure in business, reduCtion in powers of objection, and full statement of grounds for objections, information to be produced by applicants only to the Licensing Authority, that procedure in connection with renewals and variations should be made simpler, quicker and cheaper, and, finally, that merging of businesses by purchase should be rendered less difficult.

PRESS BANNED AT MERGER DISCUSSION.

Usually appreciative of publicity, A.R.O. Metropolitan Area was strangely reticent last Friday, When a big meeting was called to explain the reason why the negotiations with the C.M.U.A. have (as•the official notification says) "broken down." The Commercial Motor representative was refused admission, but was later informed that the meeting was " friendly and effective, and fully representative of A.R.O. in the Metropolitan Area."

It is unofficially understood that the meeting was lively.
