Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Jobs in road transport will be up by one third this autumn over last autumn as the industry continues to boom, says contract driving agency Overdrive.

According to Overdrive's latest survey of job prospects, the number of vacancies will rise by 31% in the last third of 1988 over the same period in the previous year.

This backs findings by Coinmedal Motor that one in two

hauliers is experiencing a skills shortage of HGV drivers (CM 9-15 June), and by Overdrive itself, which last winter predicted that 1988 would be a boom year, and that there would be "no let up in demand".

There is a "strong growth" in the temporary market, says Overdrive marketing director Tony Hoskins.

The traditional peaks and troughs in road haulage have been replaced by a slow continuous growth, he says. "We are not getting a drop off in the down seasons of January and February and after Easter. It will carry on to 1992."
