TRANSPORT Secretary Nicholas Ridley is to address a one-day conference considering the current proposals for the deregulation of local bus services. The conference is to be held at the Cavendish Conference Centre in London on September 6.

Papers by Dr John Hibbs, of Birmingham Polytechnic, Corinne Mulley, author of Public Control of the British Bus Industry, Peter White of the Central London Polytechnic and Spencer Robeson of Hertfordshire County Council will give the background to the proposed deregulation.

The issues involved will be discussed in a panel session with Clayton Jones (Clayton Jones of Pontypridd), James Petty (Primrose Coaches), Gordon Crump (Jones Bros Coaches of Malvern) and Les Hughes (Les Hughes Transport Services of Rhyl).

The network and crosssubsidy will be discussed by Peter Mackie of Leeds University and in a panel session with Peter Sephton (Plymouth City Transport), Ian Chapman (Ribble Motor Services) and George Burnett (Tillingbourne Bus Company).
