Diesel Engineers' Meetings: Two future meetings of the Diesel Engineers and Users Association will be of special interest to transport engineers. On October 19, 1961, a symposium entitled "Reclaiming Worn or Damaged Parts of Diesel Engines" will be held, and on January 18. 1962, Mr. J. W. Wicks will read a paper on "Reconditioning High Speed Automotive Diesel Engines." A26 146,000 Drop: The annual report of Newcastle upon Tyne transport undertaking shows a surplus of L107,000 for the year ended March 31, last, a fall of £46,000 on the previous year.

Dorking Premises Erearged: Enlarged showrooms and workshops of the Dorking Motor Co. (1958), Ltd., Dorking, Surrey. were officially opened last Friday by Mr. L. A. Bowles, general manager of the Nuffield Organization. Stores and workshops areas have been almost doubled by the modernization.

Rejected: Sunderland Corporation's plans to introduce changes in the town's bus services, including the operation of more one-man buses, have been rejected by the Corporation's 800 bus workers on the grounds that they would cause hardship to the employees The dispute may he referred to arbitration.

MIDLAND RED 36-FOOTERS NEXT YEAR

'WHEN asked about the new increased VY box dimensions for public service vehicles, Mr. D. M. Sinclair, general manager of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., told The Commercial Motor: "Undoubtedly, so far as it is possible, we shall take advantage of the new box dimensions of 36 ft. x 8 ft. 21 in., although it is pretty obvious that it will be next year before these are likely to appear on the road, at any rate in any noticeable number."

Some months ago B.M.M.O. carried out trial runs between Birmingham and London with a mocked-up 40-ft-long vehicle to •ascertain the practicability of using vehicles of such a length in and out of busy city centres. Special permission had to be obtained from the Ministry of Transport for these tests, which were carried out successfully.
