AT Terrington St. Clement last week. James William Hurst, of Swarm Inn, Emneth, was fined 11 on each of 10 charges of failing to comply with Blicence conditions, £2 on each of seven charges of failing to comply with the conditions of a C licence, and 10s. on each of four charges of permitting Claude Walter Murfitt, 4 Church Road, Emneth, to drive a goods vehicle for more than the permitted number of hours. Hurst pleaded guilty and was also ordered to pay £5 5s. advocate's fees.

Mr. C. M. B. Sessions, for Hurst, said that at the beginning of 1957 his client was working with four vehicles on a C licence. He applied to put them on B licences, and his case was heard last summer. A B licence was granted for only one vehicle. Hurst appealed unsuccessfully.

If he did not get a B licence for four vehicles, or at least three, he would have to reorganize his business.

Mr. S. J. Green, prosecuting, said that the way in which Hurst had used his lorries was an unfair form of competition against established haulage contractors who had to hear higher costs. The offences arose from the carriage of straw in lorries belonging to Hurst from the Wisbech district to Camberley.
