Taxi drivers blockaded a ferry terminal as part of their protest at what they describe as a transport monopoly by the PTE.
The row centres around the bus service linking the DFDS ferry terminal at North Shields with the centre of Newcastle.
The taxi drivers — backed by local retailers — claim passengers on the incoming ferries are offered tickets for the bus service before the ships dock and are given the impression there is no other way of getting to Newcastle.
The drivers want DFDS to stop selling the bus tickets while the ferries are at sea, but the PTE has so far refused to comment on the wrangle.
