MR. W. E. Rooms was, on September 25, given a complimentary luncheon by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders upon his retirement from the Presidency, which was necessitated by his important Government position as Chairman of the Supply Council. The /unction was attended by 79 members, and the opportunity was taken of making a presentation to Mr. Rootes.

MR. A. F. PALMER PHIILLIPS, sales director of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., has been. elected Vice-president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, an office which he also held in 1927. Mr.Phillips is chairman of the Commercial Vehicle Section and has been a member of the council and of the management committee continuously since 1925 and 1927, respectively. He has also been a most active member of numerous other committees

of the Society. .

MR. F. H. S. RAM,' recently returned to Morris Motors, Ltd., at Cowley, to resume his duties. as publicity manager to that company, a position in which he won the esteem of all those with whom he made contact. From 1920 to '1934, he was with Messrs. Wadham Bros., of Waterlooville, acting for various parties in control of service 'facilities, sales promotion and publicity. It was in the latter year that he joined Morris Motors, Ltd., and was in charge of publicity until the end of 1939. Then for the first eight months of 1940 he was in control of No. 1 Repairable Equipment Depot, Civilian Repair Organization, R.A.F. Following this he joined Admiral Sir Edward Evans, Regional Commissiver for London • Civil Defence, as .personal assistant during his push for more ade-quate shelters, Mr. Rasch is a fellow of the Incorporated' Advertising Managers' Association and a member of it* council, MR. A, HA MILTON JACKSON, F.I.141.T., sales manager of Messrs. Bryan Brothers, Ford main dealers of Bristol, was called up for military service some weeks, ago from the Army Officer? Emergency Reserve, and we understand that he has an appointment on the General Staff at a Command Headquarters.

Mu, V. L. STANLEY has been appointed sales manager for Motor Distributors, Ltd., of Leeds. From 1931 until last year he was wholesale sales manager for Pointing, Ltd., Leeds, and when that business was taken over by the Paragon (Hull) Motor Co., Ltd., he was retained as sales manager, and continued in that position until his present appointment.

MR. A. A. JACKSON, engineer and manager of Bolton Transport Department, will, during the war emergency, assume two additional offices. He has been co-opted a member of the emergency repairs committee -and made emergency transport officer for the borough, in which capacity he will deal with all transport requirements following an enemy attack. The transport committee has signified its approval, and has agreed to hisundertaking the supervision and maintenance of all vehicles in the various war-time services:"
