Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANGRY FORD subcontractors owed up to £40,000 apiece for work carried out before the end of August have been promised that they will be paid soon.

A group of eight hauliers are waiting for money after being taken on by an agency called Car Transport Brokers of Kidlington, Oxfordshire. Ford called in subcontractors to bypass union problems after putting some of its own car delivery drivers on 90 days' notice.

The car delivery work was out of Immingham and Bristol docks; the contract ended in August. However, delays in processing invoices mean the drivers are still awaiting payment. As CM went to press Ford's transport manager at the time, Keith Sinclair, said the issue had now been resolved: "My understanding is that it is now settled. The drivers who were taken on by Car Transport Brokers submitted ;nvoices, which had to be checked and vetted here.

"What I would liketostress is that Ford has a commercial relationship with Car Transport Brokers, which in turn has a commercial relationship with the drivers."

Subcontractor John Scott is owed £15,000. He says Car Transport Brokers told him this week that the company had received a payment from Ford on 31 October.
