Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHEN first reaching the Saurer stand one's eye is caught by the. enormous furniture delivery van bearing the name of Pickford. This is finished in blue with white lines, and the vehicle undercarriage is painted red. The massive appearance of the vehicle is enhanced by the fitting of pneumatic tyres front and rear, and the overall height, coupled with the solidity of the body, makes it almost appear to be larger than a covered-top double-deck bus. The 6-tonner predominates with five of the six exhibits the 2BH chassis being represented by one machine only.

Those who desire to study the construction of Saurer vehicles should see the polished chassis, which well reveals the inherblit strength of this make of commercial motor, and is also an instance of highfinish. The keynote of the design is solidity and strength, the rear springs and axle being particular instances.

The Saurer demonstrates a serious attempt to deal with the trailer problem. On various of the exhibits can be seen the Saurer patent trailer hook, which precludes any possibility of the drawbar of the trailer _jumping out of engagement with the hook on the towing vehicle. Mounted on the near side of the dashboard in certain instances is found the Saurer patent brake-control D24 gear, which avoids any risk of the brake being released when the lorry and trailer are left unattended.

Solid tyres are, of course, used on the metal three-way tipping vehicle, which is handsomely finished in grey and black.

This, in common with the other exhibits, has the Saurer patent engine brake, which converts the engine from a power provider into a means of absorbing power by utilizing it as an air compressor. Those interested in _passenger transport And mach to draw their attention in the Saurer low . load-line 26-seater omnibus; the ample provision for braking and the special safety fuel-filling bevice for the tank are items of considerable import to those who take to heart the lesson to be learned from the last season's outstanding mishaps in passenger-carrying.

, The2BH chassis is an entirely new design, built for high-speed delivery of 2-ton loads on pneumatic tyres only. Central control is provided and the use of canvas flaps on this and the other exhibits for excluding the rain and covering the rear-view aperture is indicative of the thought which has been shown for the occupant of the cab.

The small cfiassis is fitted with a grey lorry body, with comparatively shallow sides, but it is capable of transporting a bulky load. This machine has pneumatic tyres, as previously mentioned, for which a mechanically operated Saurer-type pump is fixed on the chassis. Electric lighting and starting are incorporated. Overhead valves are used in this engine, and the general layout is such as to providehigh speed and economical operation. The Sewer Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd., 21, Augustus Street, London, N.W.1.
