Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

stand is undoubtedly the new sixcylinder, low-frame-level passenger chassis, but as this is described fully elsewhere in this issue we will not repeat the details here.

At the front of the stand there is a somewhat unusual exhibit consisting of the standard 1-ton chassis partially polished, which is mounted on -brackets over the 26-seater low-frame type passenger chassis with the four-cylinder 30 h.p. engine.

• In this chassis the frame is dropped close to the dash and arched over the axle. So far as the power unit is concerned, this is a four-cylindered monobloc embodying the special features which are associated with Guy products, these, of course, including the setting of the valves at an angle and arranging the combustion chambers so that the effect given is that of an overhead-valve engine, without its complications.

The cylinder heads are so arranged that the gaskets provide against gas leakage only, the water connections being external and sealed by coned rubber rings. Aluminium alloy cylinder heads and pistons are employed. An excellent feature is that large crankcase doors permit dismantling the big-ends without removing the bottom half of the crankcase.

Power is conveyed through an external fabric-faced cone clutch provided with a clutch stop, and the springs, • being external, can easily be adjusted. The clutch withdrawal is direct. A fabric disc joint is fitted between clutch and gearbox, which are separate units, the last-named giving four forward speeds.

A feature of this gearbox is that the three selector-rod locking-plungers can be adjusted externally. The changespeed gate is carried on an extension from the side of the gearbox, and not on the lid, which, incidentally, is large and affords an excellent measure of accessibility. The gearbox filler is at the front conveniently situated under the floorboards.

The open propeller shaft, divided, and with a centre bearing, has two ringtype universal joints running' in oil baths, and carries the drive through a sliding-block universal joint with renewable steel faces, to a double-reduction axle of the bevel-and-spur type. This has a one-piece bulbous housing to which the spring carriers are bolted. There is a transmission brake operated .by pedal and a hand brake acting direct on the rear-wheel drums and provided with a swing-link compensator.

To give a rigid frame, this is crosstrussed at the centre and has large tubular cross-members, those amidships

being arched-to clear the propeller shaft. The frame is inswept to the front, and an important feature is that the flanges are widened to add strength at this point.

In the 1-ton chassis, the monobloe engine is four-point-mounted direct on the frame. The single-plate clutch is carried in a ball housing, but a hand hole is provided in this to permit adjustment of the spring. There is also an open front to the housing to expose the clutch withdrawal gear, but the gearbox is bolted up as a unit to the lower half and pivoted at two points on a tubular cross-member. Four speeds are provided, the change being right-hand, the gate being an extension of the top cover of thegearbox.

So far as complete vehicles are concerned, there is a one-man-operated 26seater bus with emergency door operated from the driver's seat and from the rear. It is beautifully finished in white enamel with a blue waist rail and bonnet. The seats are arranged in pairs, except for three at each side over the wheel arches, and comfort is increased by the use of :spring backs. The equipment includes Lucas lighting.

There is also a 30-seater bus arranged for one-man-operation if required, but also having a rear side entrance with double doors. This is on a long wheelbase chassis, but in other respects resembles the 26-seater type.

As regards goods vehicles, there is a 30-cwt. boarded tilt for Harrods, this being equipped with shelves along the sides. It has a most commodious cab and a gliding door at the back. The equipment includes a four-piece windscreen.
