that it is actually going to reduce the cost of the FIGV test is music to the ears of those of us who have been training the nation's drivers for years.

I well remember in 1976 suggesting to the DTp that the increase of £8 to £24 for an HGV test was iniquitous. At that time could I remind your readers that the cost of a PSV test was 50 pence! Some things take a long while to happen and one can fully understand why Lord Rayner had such difficulty in getting the DTp, among other departments, to make any real economic savings in the cost of its activities.

Let us not be churlish, however! Better late than never and thank you to Peter Bottomley, our new Transport Minister.
