Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN exhauster for operating servo brakes is shown in patent No.. 617,705. It comes from the Clayton , Dewandre Co., Ltd., and E. Willett, both of Titanic Works, Lincoln. Working on the eccentric-vane principle, the exhauster is fitted with means for preventing air-leaks arising from endplay in the rotor.

In the drawing, 1 is the rotor, which is eccentrically mounted in the casing, and 2 and 3 are two of the rectangular sliding vans. Centrifugal force tends to make the vanes self-sealing on their circumferential edges, but to seal the end faces normally calls for a very close fit. In the present case, however, a pair of slidable end-discs (4) is incorporated, and they are loaded by small springs (5) so as to maintain a light pressure on the vanes. So that the discs themselves -Shall not teak, they are each provided with a piston ring let into their periphery, as shown at 6.
