Training Council (RHDTC} after 17 July will be to fund the organisation that is replacing it, says the Council's chief executive.
The Council, which is a registered charity, will keep its cash but use it to dispense funds to Skills For Logistics, the body which will take over the bulk of the Council's work (CM 26 June-2 July).
The RHDTC co-ordinates schemes for the industry, including the Young Drivers Scheme and Modern Apprenticeships. it is expected that the Council's staff will transfer to the new organisation.
Skills for Logistics will probably be based in Mitten Keynes, like the RHDTC, although a move to larger offices is possible because a staff increase is planned.
Ian Hetherington, chief executive of the RHOTC and favourite to head up Skills for Logistics, says: "The RHDTC will continue in name, but with a much reduced role and no operational activity of its own. The new organisation will be larger and have a broader remit, which makes more sense in terms of serving the logistics sector regardless of mode of transport."
Skills for Logistics will be one of 20 sector skills councils covering the UK economy, and Hetherington says because it is more broadly based it will have a greater influence on the government.
In addition to the funding from the RHDTC, the new body will receive 11 million a year from the government, plus more money from Europe and other sources to fund individual schemes or areas. PAIEi "More resources means more impact," says _.. Hetherington.
