11/ Six Bedford-Hawson vans insulated with Ii-in. of polystyrene and fitted with Frigiking refrigeration equipment are currently going into service with the Unigate Food Division Ltd, Trowbridge, Wilts.

Designed for operation at a maximum gross vehicle weight of 4.05 tons, these Bedford vehicles will be used for shop deliveries of fresh dairy products. Each has a carrying capacity of 35cwt (300 cu ft).

A Unigate company, T. Heard and Son Ltd, of Westbury, Wilts, is handling the insulation and other body building work and Frigiking distributor, D. P. Toomey Ltd, Brighton, Sussex, the fitting of the 720 EH cooling equipment which is designed for operation at 35°F, the condenser being mounted on top of the body with the evaporator positioned immediately below, but within the body. The compresser is located below the floor of the driver's cab where it is operated through an electro-magnetic clutch by power take-off.

This particular vehicle has its stand-by unit fitted on the nearside of the vehicle in the driver's cab close to the front bulkhead but positioned so as not to obstruct the walk through characteristics of the BedfordHawson design.
