A PROMISE to check and reverse
in.the process of road transport nationalization is contained in the Conservative Party's election manifesto, This is the Road," published last week. The statement is as follows:
"The nationalization of omnibuses and tramways will be halted. Wherever possible those already nationalized will he offered to their former owners, whether private or municipal We shall also be prepared to sell back to free enterprise those sections of the road haulage industry which have been nationalized, and to restore the former system of A and
B licences. The limitation of distance on private road hauliers will be progressively eliminated. The present • freedom of C licences will remain untouched."
The Party advocates decentralization of the railways, with a number of autonomous regions each controlled by its own board of directors.
