Road-surfacing Machines

AFTER much success in Germany, Czecho-Slovakia and other countries, a• compressed-air-operated roadsurfacing machine, made by the KnorrBremse A.-G. (the well-known maker of

railway and road-vehicle brake systems), is being marketed here by the company's English representative, Kurt Erla,ch, Ltd., of 52, Neweomen Street, London, S.E.1. Tim machine was demonstrated recently in London to road-construction companies and municipal officers, and created a good impression.

As one of our illustrations shows, the outfit comprises a heavy-oil-driven tractor (equipped with compressor). and a tank trailer containing the liq...id turfacing compound. Working as a suction pump, the compressor will fill the 250gallon tank, from four barrels simultaneously in four minutes, solid matter being excluded and entry of the liquid into the compressor being fh4vented. After the road has been cleaned by compressed-air brushes and blowers, the liquid is forced into the surface in a finely atomized state by the nozzles. From a reservoir a jet of highly compressed air impinges on the liquid at the nozzle, breaking it up with great force. Tubes and nozzles a73. cleaned by a solvent aided by air pressure.

The cabinet above the tank and air reservoir accommodates the air filter and the "safety vessel," the duty of which is to prevent sucking of the liquid into the compressor when the tank is being filled.
