• On Wednesday the second stage of the vehicle-noise regulations came into effect. Regulation 23 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1969 states that every goods and passenger vehicle first used after April 1 1970 shall be so constructed that the noise emitted by it does not exceed 89 decibels (dBA).
The regulation specifies the standard for meters used to assess the noise level and also conditions for measuring the noise emitted by a vehicle.
